{"id":633951,"date":"2026-04-28T10:58:16","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T10:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/633951\/"},"modified":"2026-04-28T10:58:16","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T10:58:16","slug":"smile-cookie-campaign-underway-in-support-of-edmonton-police-foundation-edmonton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/633951\/","title":{"rendered":"Smile Cookie campaign underway in support of Edmonton Police Foundation &#8211; Edmonton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A celebration to kick off the Tim Horton\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/smile-cookie-campaign\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Smile Cookie campaign<\/a> got off to a suspicious start at the Edmonton Convention Centre Monday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do believe a crime has been committed this morning \u2013 I think someone stole our cookies,\u201d deputy chief Derek McIntyre with the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/edmonton-police-service\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Edmonton Police Service<\/a> (EPS) said.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was quickly identified as the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/cookie-monster\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cookie Monster<\/a> himself.<\/p>\n<p>The EPS tactical section members located him in the rafters and rappelled down after him. A high stakes pursuit ended in a dramatic arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767930311_275_national.jpg\" alt=\"Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you'll never miss the day's top stories.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n<p>Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you&#8217;ll never miss the day&#8217;s top stories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt really good to not only to catch the Cookie Monster, but that the Cookie Monster apologized and we were able to let him go with a warning,\u201d McIntyre said.<\/p>\n<p>With the cookies recovered, Kids and Families from Radius Health\u2019s Pregnancy Pathways program were finally able to decorate them.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe in empowering police officers to use their specialized skills \u2013 skills the rest of us don\u2019t have to impact the community in unique and innovative ways, and this is just an example of that,\u201d Edmonton Police Foundation (EPF) executive director Elisha Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>For a second year, the EPF was selected as the Smile Cookie campaign recipient.<\/p>\n<p>Every $2 cookie sold at Edmonton locations will help fund EPF youth programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just helping youth stay on a positive path away from cycles of crime, harm and victimization,\u201d Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the initiative raised nearly $400,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese programs, they change youths lives.
