Anthony Davis was building something else entirely while he was also building his wealth.<\/p>\n
The Washington Wizards star power forward revealed to TODAY’s Craig Melvin that he initially missed his agent’s calls when he received his last two contract extensions, as well as the surprising reason why.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s one hobby that you have that would surprise most people?\u201d Melvin asked Davis on the April 28 episode of \u201cGlass Half Full.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI love to build Legos,\u201d the basketball star said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re just layered,\u201d Craig replied.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s funny because my agent called me my last two extensions, and I wasn\u2019t answering the phone,\u201d Davis recalled. \u201cHe was like, \u2018Man, you just got paid the highest extension in NBA history, and I can\u2019t get ahold of you.\u2019 \u2018I’m sorry, I was building Legos. I apologize.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Davis, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the-then New Orleans Hornets after he led the University of Kentucky to the national championship in his lone season there, said Legos are a serious matter to him,<\/p>\n
\u201cI build Legos. I have an entire collection of Legos. I love to build Legos,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The 14-year NBA veteran has not exactly kept his adoration for Legos a secret, either.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy peace … where it\u2019s just like I would listen to music and just be drifted off, it\u2019s doing Legos,\u201d he said on \u201cThe Backyard Podcast\u201d<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n In 2023, Davis, then with the Los Angeles Lakers, signed a three-year, $186 million maximum contract extension<\/a>, the richest annual extension<\/a> in NBA history, ESPN reported at the time. <\/p>\n Prior to that, in 2020, he re-signed with the Lakers<\/a> on a five-year, $190 million contract. In 2015, Davis signed<\/a> a five-year, $145 million contract<\/a> extension with the Pelicans.<\/p>\n After beginning his career with the Hornets (who changed their name to the Pelicans before the 2014-2015 NBA season), Davis was traded to the Lakers in 2019 and helped lead them to the NBA title the next season. <\/p>\n
