\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\nFaced with countless potholes on his daily route, Saad Tekiout decided to take matters into his own hands.<\/p>\n
The Montrealer has been going around the city repairing potholes \u2013 on his own dime and time. He says in the past month, he\u2019s repaired two to three potholes a day.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was just getting some flat in my tire. My friend getting the same thing,\u201d Tekiout, who\u2019s the owner of Marquize Paysagement, told CityNews.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe take the same road daily. So why I need to wait for someone to fix it if I can fix it myself? I know how to do it, so I can do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
A social media video of Tekiout repairing a pothole and asking viewers to send him the addresses of other potholes recently went viral.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got hundreds of requests. I put them in priority, the bigger, and depend who\u2019s calling, if it\u2019s someone old, if it\u2019s someone younger. So I go like this.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do this as a human because I think of other humans.\u201d<\/p>\n
The video was even seen by Montreal\u2019s mayor, who appeared to ask Tekiout to stand down.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for the initiative, truly. What you\u2019re doing is appreciated, but it\u2019s not your responsibility (or your team\u2019s) to fill the potholes yourselves,\u201d Martinez Ferrada wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand the frustration, especially given the state of the streets inherited from the previous administration. For our part, our teams are working flat out to speed up repairs throughout the city.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Montrealers who spoke to CityNews were mixed about Tekiout\u2019s initiative, they agreed it was a bad look for the City of Montreal.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf a citizen can take it upon themselves to fix it, why can\u2019t the city do that?\u201d said Aligo Vatali.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s funny, but sad at the same time because it\u2019s not our job to fix it.,\u201d said Joseph Zeidan. \u201cBut I mean, I feel like if he\u2019s doing it, I\u2019m sure a lot of people will help him too. So hit us up and we\u2019ll be happy to help.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not his responsibility,\u201d added Zakaria Mededjel. \u201cSo, thank you, citizen, but it\u2019s up to the city to deal with this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since Tekiout\u2019s video went viral, a paving company in Montreal has stepped up and also did pothole repair for free in Lachine on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat inspired me was that I\u2019ve seen there\u2019s a problem with the potholes,\u201d said Anthony Khan, the owner of Pavage Milan. \u201cI\u2019m in the business. I have the equipment to do the proper work. Sometimes we\u2019re left over with leftover asphalt from our day. Two, three, four, five tons. We\u2019re able to put them in the potholes and fix them. No problem, free of charge. But I do want to work getting city contracts also.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tekiout says the more the merrier.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy goal is to finish all Montreal, and I think I can do it,\u201d he said. \u201cIf there are some people that they want to join me, they are welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n
