Plans to build a high-rise tower with over 130 units in Brampton\u2019s east end has been approved after a deferral last month due to school capacity concerns.<\/p>\n
The development will be an 18-storey-tall tower with 132 residential units at 8840 The Gore Rd. in Brampton, with 195 square metres of indoor amenity space, 864 square metres of outdoor amenity space and two levels of underground parking, according to an application by KLM Planning Partners Inc. care of Forestside Estates Inc.<\/p>\n
The proposal was deferred back to City of Brampton staff following a Planning and Development Committee meeting last month, where Coun. Rod Power raised concerns about a lack of schools in the area.<\/p>\n
But the proposed development was given approval on Monday after a report found that the tower would result in approximately 13 new elementary school students and three secondary school students in the Peel District School Board, and six new elementary school students and two secondary school students in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on this additional review, staff are satisfied that school capacity does not constrain the proposed development,\u201d a staff report reads.<\/p>\n
The application\u2019s approval has allowed for an increase in height from eight storeys to 18, with a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.<\/p>\n
The development includes plans for surface parking at the rear yard of the building, nearly 80 bicycle parking stalls, and 115 residential spaces and 27 visitor spaces underground.<\/p>\n
The area is designated as \u201cneighbourhoods\u201d under the 2024 Brampton official plan and are located within The Gore MTSA, \u201cindicating that the
site is a prime location for increased height and density developments,\u201d the developers say.<\/p>\n
