Firefighters stopped a garage fire on Selkirk Avenue from spreading to nearby houses Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the Chiswell Cove house and had it under control by 8:11 p.m.<\/p>\n
One person was taken to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
A few minutes later, as a WFPS crew was returning from another service call, firefighters noticed a garage on the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue in flames.<\/p>\n
Additional crews arrived and were able to stop the fire from spreading to the house. The blaze was declared under control at 8:38 p.m. The city\u2019s emergency social services team helped some residents who had evacuated.<\/p>\n
Crews were also sent to an apartment block on the first 100 block of Chandos Avenue after a report of a fire at 8:51 p.m.<\/p>\n
Firefighters found the blaze in the laundry room and extinguished it by 9:25 p.m. Occupants of the building evacuated and were later able to return to their suites.<\/p>\n
A preliminary investigation determined the fire was caused by a malfunction of a dryer.<\/p>\n

The spate continued into the morning as firefighters were sent to three additional blazes.<\/p>\n
The first was at a three-storey apartment on the 200 block of Colony Street. Residents evacuated the building and returned to their suites after the fire was put out.<\/p>\n
Fires at a Tweed Avenue garage at 4:05 a.m. and a commercial building on the 600 block of Washington Avenue at 5:49 a.m. were also doused by crews.<\/p>\n
No one was hurt in the either blaze.<\/p>\n
All of the fires remain under investigation.
