Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh appeared on\u00a0The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/a> on Tuesday and was spitting facts about Vancouver and some of its not-so-great history.<\/p>\n

Dosanjh performed in front of a sold-out crowd of 55,000 people earlier this month at BC Place, and he mentioned the performance on Fallon\u2019s show, referencing some of Vancouver\u2019s darker history.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe stadium we did in Vancouver, like 1914, when our people came [for the] first time in Canada, they didn\u2019t allow us to come to Canada,\u201d Dosanjh said, referencing the Komagata Maru incident, which took place in 1914.<\/p>\n

The Komagata Maru incident occurred when a ship carrying Indian passengers travelled aboard a steamship to Vancouver. The vessel\u2019s name was Komagata Maru. Hundreds of passengers were denied entry, and the ship was turned back to India. Many were fired upon and killed when they returned.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat stadium is just two kilometres away from the Guru Nanak Jahaz Komagata Maru incident,\u201d Dosanjh pointed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, that\u2019s a big thing for us now, 55,000 people in the one stadium there, it\u2019s just two kilometres. You didn\u2019t allow us to come, and now we are here, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fallon\u2019s crowd erupted in applause in response to his comments, and Dosanjh got a \u201cthat\u2019s amazing\u201d from Fallon.<\/p>\n

Fallon also pointed out that they\u2019re teaching a course about Dosanjh at the University of Toronto. He then asked Dosanjh what his \u201cmessage\u201d is.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy message is just love,\u201d he said in response. \u201cForgiveness and respect. That\u2019s my message. That\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dosanjh also got lots of positive feedback in the comments for him and the Sikh community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so enriched by the Sikh community here in the PNW and the Lower Mainland,\u201d one of the comments says.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Someone else said, \u201cHis whole vibe is the best energy, and we need this right now!!\u201d<\/p>\n
