Investigators claim that the level of familiarity is a key reason they believe the burglary may be connected to earlier suspicious activity in the case.<\/p>\n
Affidavits tied to the case reference several people in the couple\u2019s \u201cinner circle,\u201d though no one has been publicly identified or charged.<\/p>\n
During a Jan. 16 celebration of life event for the family, detectives identified a woman who resembled the suspect seen on surveillance footage. She was described as a friend of the family.<\/p>\n

License plate reader data also placed a vehicle linked to her near the home shortly before the break-in, according to the warrants.<\/p>\n
Investigators say she later canceled plans with friends and traveled to Pennsylvania after images from the burglary were released.<\/p>\n
Within hours of the crash, the family\u2019s email and banking accounts were targeted, WBTV reported.<\/p>\n

An email was sent to Biffle\u2019s account just after 2 a.m. on Dec. 19, according to search warrants obtained by the outlet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard you\u2019re dead, rest in hell,\u201d the email said.<\/p>\n
Detectives say that there were then changes to email addresses, phone numbers and passwords as their bank accounts were compromised.<\/p>\n
Authorities allege that \u201chundreds of thousands of dollars\u201d were stolen through a series of fraudulent transactions in the days and weeks that followed.<\/p>\n

The documents describe attempts to access accounts across multiple states, including changes made over the phone and at least one fraudulent check linked to Biffle\u2019s business that was cashed on Dec. 30.<\/p>\n
On April 23, authorities executed search warrants at a home in Lincoln County and a business in Mooresville.<\/p>\n
No stolen items were recovered, but several electronic devices were seized from the residence. Nothing was taken from the business.<\/p>\n
Detectives say the case now spans multiple states and involves multiple potential suspects.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t say they\u2019re not connected, but we\u2019re still investigating,\u201d Iredell County detectives told WBTV.<\/p>\n
Investigators have not ruled out that the break-in was part of a broader effort tied to the alleged financial scheme.<\/p>\n
Biffle was one of NASCAR\u2019s most recognizable drivers, with more than 50 wins across its three national series, including 19 in the Cup Series, along with championships in the Truck and Xfinity divisions.<\/p>\n
The cause of the Dec. 18 crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
