Rumors that PIF chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan was set to pull the plug on the breakaway golf league have been swirling since LIV Golf\u2019s most recent event in Mexico, with CEO Scott O\u2019Neil all but confirming the news during an interview with TNT Sports<\/a> which was swiftly deleted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is that you\u2019re funded through the season, and then you work like crazy as a business to create a business and a business plan to keep us going,\u201d\u00a0O\u2019Neil said.<\/p>\n

TG later learned that \u201c99 percent\u201d of the staff had been informed<\/a> that week that the PIF would be withdrawing its funding following the conclusion of the 2026 season \u2013 which has already had one event cancelled<\/a> as uncertainty looms. TG also reported that a number of LIV\u2019s players had sounded out the DP World Tour<\/a> over a possible return. <\/p>\n

In a statement on Thursday, LIV Golf says its plan now is to \u201ctransition from a foundational launch phase to a diversified, multi-partner investment model, with a formal process underway to attract long-term financial partners\u201d.<\/p>\n

By the end of the year, the PIF will have pumped almost $6 billion into the project, with prize money across the 14 events coming in at almost half a billion a year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite reports that Al-Rumayyan will be stepping down as LIV Golf\u2019s chairman, he is not mentioned in the statement. Nor was the PIF\u2019s intention to cut ties with the league. <\/p>\n

Instead, it talks of a \u201cnewly established independent board\u201d which will be headed by Gene Davis and Jon Zinman \u2013 the founders and chairmen of Pirinate Consulting Group LLC and JZ Advisors LLC respectively.<\/p>\n

LIV describes the pair as \u201cseasoned experts with proven track records of navigating complex situations and unlocking value for global organizations,\u00a0to\u00a0guide the league\u00a0through its next phase\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Davis said: \u201cThe executive leadership team,\u00a0along with Jon and I,\u00a0see a clear opportunity\u00a0to help the league\u00a0formalize its structure,\u00a0attract\u00a0and secure long-term\u00a0capital,\u00a0and position the business for\u00a0growth\u00a0while continuing to\u00a0promote\u00a0the\u00a0game across the world.\u00a0We look forward to\u00a0positioning\u00a0LIV Golf for future\u00a0success.\u201d<\/p>\n

LIV Golf, it seems, will now focus on its team and franchise model and are seeking \u201cconstructive, forward-looking discussions with prospective global investors and partners who share our vision for an inclusive and modernized game\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
