{"id":638499,"date":"2026-04-30T11:50:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T11:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/638499\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T11:50:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T11:50:08","slug":"liv-golf-releases-statement-on-uncertain-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/638499\/","title":{"rendered":"LIV Golf releases statement on uncertain future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rumors that PIF chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan was set to pull the plug on the breakaway golf league have been swirling since LIV Golf\u2019s most recent event in Mexico, with CEO Scott O\u2019Neil all but confirming the news during an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-ceo-scott-o-neil-confirms-pif-financial-backing-to-end\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview with TNT Sports<\/a> which was swiftly deleted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is that you\u2019re funded through the season, and then you work like crazy as a business to create a business and a business plan to keep us going,\u201d\u00a0O\u2019Neil said.<\/p>\n<p>TG later learned that \u201c99 percent\u201d of the staff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-saudi-funding-pulled\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">had been informed<\/a> that week that the PIF would be withdrawing its funding following the conclusion of the 2026 season \u2013 which has already had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-cancels-2026-tour-stop\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one event cancelled<\/a> as uncertainty looms. TG also reported that a number of LIV\u2019s players had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-players-uncertain-future\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sounded out the DP World Tour<\/a> over a possible return.   <\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Thursday, LIV Golf says its plan now is to \u201ctransition from a foundational launch phase to a diversified, multi-partner investment model, with a formal process underway to attract long-term financial partners\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the year, the PIF will have pumped almost $6 billion into the project, with prize money across the 14 events coming in at almost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.todays-golfer.com\/news-and-events\/tour-news\/liv-golf-total-player-earnings\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">half a billion a year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite reports that Al-Rumayyan will be stepping down as LIV Golf\u2019s chairman, he is not mentioned in the statement.
