{"id":638564,"date":"2026-04-30T12:47:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T12:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/638564\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T12:47:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T12:47:10","slug":"eby-says-province-wont-be-handing-over-bc-place-to-the-whitecaps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/638564\/","title":{"rendered":"Eby says province won&#8217;t be handing over BC Place to the Whitecaps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The fate of the Vancouver Whitecaps is unclear after <a href=\"https:\/\/vancouver.citynews.ca\/2026\/04\/27\/report-mls-eyes-las-vegas-whitecaps-relocated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Athletic reported Monday<\/a> that the club may soon be heading stateside, and many options to save the team have been floated.<\/p>\n<p>One of the possibilities mentioned was for the province to hand BC Place over to the team.<\/p>\n<p>But B.C. Premier David Eby says that is not going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not on the table, and I would say the simple reason for that is the Whitecaps have shown absolutely no interest in taking over BC Place,\u201d he said while talking to the press Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a moneymaker for the province.
