For most, brushing one\u2019s hair is a simple routine.<\/p>\n

But for some families, detangling their child\u2019s knots can mean screaming, panic, and pain.<\/p>\n

That was the reality for Montreal area resident Maya, who lives with autism. After having to cut most of her hair to make the process easier, her mother, Janice Ayotte, decided to get to the root of the problem and created this: a new brush designed for people with sensory sensitivities.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing neurodivergent myself and having my daughter, I knew what was missing from a typical brush,\u201d explained Ayotte. \u201cI knew what the problem areas were of typical brushes, and I knew what I needed to change about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

With two types of bristles, the \u2018The Neuro Standard\u2019 brush detangles and is gentle on sensitive scalps \u2013 avoiding any scratching sensation.<\/p>\n

Its cushion is designed to prevent hair from getting trapped in it, helping to not have any pulling.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s even a parting tip at the end, so no discomfort is experienced switching to a comb.<\/p>\n

And the soothing green colour, that was thoughtfully selected to support calmness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe feedback was positive, everything was positive,\u201d said Ayotte. \u201cWe didn\u2019t get any kids who weren\u2019t able to use the brush.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just launched a month ago,\u201d she added. \u201cThe feedback has been amazing, like overwhelmingly positive.\u201d<\/p>\n

The brush is designed, tested, and loved by the neurodivergent community. It\u2019s available online<\/a>, ready to be ordered by anyone experiencing pain while brushing.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s no longer the case for Maya, who can now brush her beautiful hair herself.<\/p>\n
