during her defeat to her in Cincinnati"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Emma Raducanu was beaten by Aryna Sabalenka in an extremely close-fought match at the Cincinnati Open.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Raducanu<\/a> lost to world number one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/aryna-sabalenka-makes-wta-history-during-her-win-against-emma-raducanu-in-cincinnati\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sabalenka, who made WTA history<\/a> in their three set battle in Cincinnati.<\/p>\n<p>Despite impressing with her performance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/emma-raducanu-told-the-one-big-mistake-she-made-which-cost-her-the-match-against-aryna-sabalenka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Raducanu has been told she made a costly error<\/a> that caused her to lose the match against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sabalenka<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/aryna-sabalenka-gives-her-opinion-on-emma-raducanu-as-a-person-and-a-player-after-knocking-her-out-in-cincinnati\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sabalenka was full of praise for Raducanu<\/a> after the match, and now the Briton has returned the favour.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2229609632-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus embraces Emma Raducanu of Great Britain after beating her in the third round of the women's singles at Cincinnati at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.\" class=\"wp-image-119706\" \/>Photo by Frey\/TPN\/Getty ImagesEmma Raducanu praises Aryna Sabalenka after their match at the Cincinnati Open<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka beat Raducanu, 7-6(3) 4-6 7-6(5), to extend her unbeaten record against the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> champion.<\/p>\n<p>After the match, Raducanu spoke to press about the match and what Sabalenka did well against her.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu responded by pinpointing both Sabalenka\u2019s serve and return, suggesting that is an area of her game that she would like to improve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think starting the point is a big takeaway,\u201d said Raducanu. \u201cI think she [Sabalenka] did that incredibly well; in the big moments, she served and returned really well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did too, in certain moments of the match, but to kind of hold that level on the starting point for the whole match, I think that\u2019s a big thing for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the three hour and nine minute battle, Sabalenka hit eight aces past Raducanu, who actually hit 10 of her own.<\/p>\n<p>However, the most notable difference is the number of double faults hit, with Sabalenka limiting herself to just three, whereas Raducanu hit a costly nine.<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka had to hold off some pressure from Raducanu at the start of the deciding set, before really putting a lot of emphasis into her own return games, that included one lasting 23 minutes on its own.<\/p>\n<p>The Belarusian could not break the serve of Raducanu in the third set, but hit some incredibly damaging returns in the decisive tie-break.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1007\" height=\"960\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/sabalenka-service.jpg\" alt=\"An in-depth graphic of Aryna Sabalenka's serving statistics from her third round win at the Cincinnati Open over Emma Raducanu.\" class=\"wp-image-119757\" \/>What is next for Emma Raducanu?<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu now exits the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/cincinnati-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati Open<\/a> at the hands of the world number one, and will now have all eyes on the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>Despite winning the US Open title four years ago, Raducanu has not won a single match at the tournament since then.<\/p>\n<p>YearEmma Raducanu\u2019s US Open performance2021Won the title2022Lost in the first round2023Missed the tournament due to injury2024Lost in the first round<\/p>\n<p>She will be hoping to change that when the New York major comes around this year, but it is still unclear as to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/emma-raducanu-is-on-the-verge-of-a-big-breakthrough-before-the-us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">whether Raducanu will be seeded for the US Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Before she can focus on singles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/carlos-alcaraz-says-what-he-is-pretty-sure-is-going-to-happen-to-emma-raducanu-as-he-gives-his-verdict-on-her-game\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Raducanu will play with Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> in the revamped US Open mixed doubles event.<\/p>\n<p>The mixed doubles tournament at the US Open will take place on August 19-20, before the singles main draw gets underway on Sunday, August 24.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu was beaten by Aryna Sabalenka in an extremely close-fought match at the Cincinnati Open.
