{"id":639848,"date":"2026-05-01T02:00:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T02:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/639848\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T02:00:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T02:00:18","slug":"update-calgary-police-two-children-found-deceased-in-vehicle-homicide-unit-investigating-discoverairdrie-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/639848\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: Calgary police: Two children found deceased in vehicle; homicide unit investigating &#8211; DiscoverAirdrie.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Calgary police say two children were found deceased inside a vehicle in northwest Calgary on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.calgary.ca\/suspicious-deaths-under-investigation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a news release<\/a>, Calgary Police Service said officers received a phone call just after 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, that led them to the 4300 block of 14 Street N.W.<\/p>\n<p>Police said officers located a vehicle and found two deceased children inside.<\/p>\n<p>During a Thursday media availability, police said both children are believed to be under the age of 10.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this time, the deaths are believed to be suspicious and our Homicide Unit is investigating,\u201d police said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>Police said one person is in custody and there is no further risk to the public.<\/p>\n<p>During the media availability, police said the person in custody is male. The vehicle was stopped when officers approached, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The medical examiner was on scene and would determine the cause of death, police said during the media availability.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Police said 14 Street N.W. was shut down in both directions to protect the integrity of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators were working to identify the children, find potential witnesses and speak with anyone who may have knowledge of what happened, police said during the media availability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand this incident is deeply upsetting, and will greatly impact the families and loved ones of the children, their communities and our entire city,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n<p>Calgary police said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calgarypolice.ca\/about-us\/our-people\/victim-assistance-support-team.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Victim Assistance Support Team<\/a> is a free service offered to victims and witnesses of crime or tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you or if someone you know is in need of support, the Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST) is here to help,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n<p>VAST can be reached at 403-428-8398.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Send your news tips, story ideas, pictures, and videos to news@discoverairdrie.com.
