NBC host Sara Gore announced her breast cancer diagnosis on air during Thursday\u2019s emotional episode of \u201cNew York Live,\u201d as pictured above. New York Live\/Instagram<\/p>\n
Gore told viewers that she\u2019ll be taking a leave of absence from her hosting duties to seek treatment. New York Live\/Instagram<\/p>\n
After her mother and sister were both also diagnosed with the illness, Gore explained that she \u201cassumed\u201d she would receive a similar diagnosis one day. Though, she wasn\u2019t prepared for that day to come.<\/p>\n
\u201cI always knew I was high-risk. I always assumed this day would come. But let me tell you, you are never ready,\u201d she explained, adding that she felt \u201ccaught off guard\u201d by the news.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re just never ready for some reason because, even when you catch it early because you\u2019re doing everything right, it is an emotional blow.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cOpen House\u201d star emotionally added: \u201cI wasn\u2019t ready for that. That actually really surprised me. It really stung.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI know it\u2019s going to sting for a minute. You know what? It\u2019s stinging right now,\u201d she conceded. \u201cBut I also know that I am exactly where I need to be, and I\u2019m surrounded by incredible doctors, and people who are taking such good care of me at home, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
She went on to thank her work \u201cfamily,\u201d adding that she feels \u201cloved\u201d and \u201cvery supported\u201d by her co-workers.<\/p>\n
Still, the host said she is \u201cexactly where I need to be, and I\u2019m surrounded by incredible doctors, and people who are taking such good care of me at home.\u201d New York Live\/Instagram<\/p>\n
Gore closed her message, promising to come back to her viewers \u201cbetter than ever.\u201d New York Live\/Instagram<\/p>\n
Despite the negative news, Gore continued to showed her optimism as she told viewers that she\u2019s \u201cchoosing to believe\u201d that \u201cmaybe there is a gift in this.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cEven if I don\u2019t fully understand what it is yet. I\u2019m working on that part. If anything, it\u2019s already a precious reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to focus on what really matters,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
