This week, Freedom Mobile tweaked its plans, ticking down the amount of data it offers. Public Mobile quickly followed suit with its plans, which often closely mimic Freedom\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Freedom Mobile now offers the following mobile plans:<\/p>\n
$35\/25GB (unchanged, limited-time offer)
\n$40\/75GB (was $40\/100GB)
\n$45\/100GB (was $45\/175GB)
\n$50\/175GB (was $50\/100GB)
\n$60\/250GB (unchanged)<\/p>\n
The above plans all include an autopay discount (which Freedom calls a \u2018Digital Discount\u2019) as well as calling, texting, and data use in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.<\/p>\n
Plus, plans include Roam Beyond features, which provide unlimited calling and texting, along with varying amounts of data for use in over 120 destinations. However, these haven\u2019t changed, with the exception of the $45\/100GB plan, which now offers 5GB of Roam Beyond data instead of 10GB.<\/p>\n
Public Mobile made similar adjustments in the wake of Freedom\u2019s changes, and now offers:<\/p>\n
$35\/35GB Canada-wide (unchanged)
\n$40\/75GB CAN\/US\/MEX (was $40\/100GB)
\n$45\/100GB CAN\/US\/MEX (was $45\/175GB)
\n$50\/175GB CAN\/US\/MEX (new)<\/p>\n
\ufeff It\u2019s a bit disappointing to see Freedom\u2019s pricing creep up, as the carrier has been putting downward pressure on pricing for a while. Most notably, Freedom\u2019s $40\/250GB deal in March<\/a> had other wireless providers in Canada scrambling to offer better deals (though none had the guts to actually match Freedom\u2019s offer).<\/p>\n Telus-owned Public typically offers very similar plans to Freedom, and so it\u2019s hardly a surprise to see it follow suit with its own changes on the heels of Freedom. We\u2019ve also seen other providers up prices this month<\/a> \u2014 here\u2019s hoping we don\u2019t see further increases from them now.<\/p>\n
Public\u2019s $30-and-under plans weren\u2019t changed this time around, but the prices on them increased earlier in the month<\/a>.<\/p>\n
