Curbside Giveaway Weekend<\/p>\n
The annual spring curbside giveaway weekend helps Winnipeggers clean out their homes while helping someone else at the same time. The giveaway weekend is on May 9 and 10.<\/p>\n
Any reusable\u00a0unwanted household items can be placed on the curb on the front street. Items must be labelled with a sticker or sign that says ‘FREE’.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Any unclaimed items must be removed from the curb by dusk on Sunday.<\/p>\n
While the City encourages residents to participate, there are some restrictions on what can be and what can’t be given away. Any items that could be unsafe are not allowed, along with items infested with bed bugs\u00a0(e.g., mattresses, furniture, and bedding), or toilets\u00a0that use 13 litres or more per flush.<\/p>\n
A full list of suggested items, as well as\u00a0giveaway weekend etiquette can be found here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Annual Compost Giveaway<\/p>\n Winnipeggers looking to improve garden soil have the opportunity to get free compost in the annual compost giveaway.<\/p>\n From May 8 to 10, between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., compost can be picked up while supplies last at\u00a01901 Brady Road (next to Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot),\u00a0Kilcona Dog Park west parking lot off McIvor Avenue (line up on Norris Road, south of McIvor Avenue), and\u00a0Summit Road closed landfill site, Summit Road north of Optimist Park.<\/p>\n All compost is from yard waste that was collected last year during\u00a0the yard waste collection season in Winnipeg.\u00a0<\/p>\n The City is reminding residents that there is a limit of 100 litres (approximately five 19-litre\/five-gallon pails) of\u00a0compost per vehicle. Trailers can be used only\u00a0for containers up to the 100\u2011litre limit. Loose compost will not be loaded into trailers.<\/p>\n The compost giveaway is open to residents of Winnipeg only. Residents must bring their\u00a0own containers, shovels, and gloves.<\/p>\n Only one vehicle can be at each compost pile at a time.<\/p>\n Yard waste collection program<\/p>\n Yard waste collection for homes in area “A” begin the week of May 4, while homes in Area “B” begin the week of May 11.\u00a0<\/p>\n Yard waste can be dropped off free of charge at one of the\u00a04R Winnipeg Depots<\/a>. Yard waste is collected every two weeks from the curb, on the same day as recycling and garbage.<\/p>\n Residents are reminded not to rake yard waste or debris onto the street as it can plug drains and\u00a0cause ponding problems.\u00a0<\/p>\n Debris can be put out for regular garbage collection.\u00a0Compostable yard waste material (e.g., grass clippings, leaves) can be placed in any reusable containers without a lid, cardboard boxes, or paper yard waste bags.<\/p>\n
