Our TC bargaining team met with the employer on April 29-30 to make progress on key priorities. The employer\u2019s insulting wage proposal was the final straw for our bargaining team after the employer spending months ignoring our top issues, leaving us with no choice but to declare impasse.<\/p>\n
The employer\u00a0tabled\u00a0a\u00a0wage\u00a0proposal\u00a0that falls\u00a0short\u00a0of\u00a0keeping\u00a0up with the cost of\u00a0living.\u00a0There was also no movement\u00a0on\u00a0our\u00a0proposals to improve\u00a0job security,\u00a0remote work,\u00a0market\u00a0adjustments\u00a0or allowances\u2013\u00a0key\u00a0issues for our members.\u00a0To add insult to injury, the employer is calling for concessions that would limit access to\u00a0family-related\u00a0leave, personal needs\u00a0leave,\u00a0and\u00a0roll back hours of work provisions,\u00a0including overtime and standby.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Treasury Board tables insulting wage offer after\u00a0almost a\u00a0year of delays\u00a0<\/p>\n
After more than four months without responding to\u00a0our economic proposal<\/a>,<\/a>\u00a0Treasury Board finally provided their wage offer:\u00a0<\/p>\n 2.0% in 2025\u00a0 The insulting wage proposal amounts to less than 1% per year.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a clear pay cut at a time when the cost of living has far outpaced wages. It also sends a clear message about how little value the employer places on the work you do every day to deliver critical public services across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n PSAC’s wage proposal, tabled in December, called for economic increases of 4.75% per year.\u00a0\u00a0Without supporting Canada\u2019s federal public service workers, projects like Prime Minister Carney\u2019s \u201cBuild Canada Strong\u201d plan are set to fail. Slashing public services and offering pay cuts to the workers who provide them plainly shows this government\u2019s disrespect for the services that keep our country running. Public service workers deserve better.\u00a0<\/p>\n Cost of living continues to outpace wages\u00a0<\/p>\n Over the past several years, the cost of living has soared with food, housing, and everyday essentials rising well above typical wage growth.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n While wages in the federal public service have historically aligned with inflation, that pattern has been thrown out the window. Instead, you are being asked to absorb the impact of sustained inflation without meaningful wage adjustment.\u00a0<\/p>\n The federal government regularly talks about affordability and cost-of-living pressures across the country. But when it comes to federal public service workers, the wage offer on the table tells a different story. It would make life less affordable for the people who deliver federal public services every day.\u00a0<\/p>\n Recent private-sector wage settlements come in well above what is being offered here, averaging 4.4% in 2024, 3.9% in 2025, and 4.2% in 2026. This is what the government used to set the wages for its MPs. Those increases are designed to keep pace with changing economic conditions. Federal public service workers deserve the same fair treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n What else happened at the table\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Job security\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The employer\u00a0failed to\u00a0respond to our job security proposal, one of our members\u2019 top concerns.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs)\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Our team raised concerns about the growing wage gap for AMEs, along with ongoing recruitment and retention challenges and declining morale. These members play\u00a0an\u00a0important\u00a0role\u00a0in supporting\u00a0search and\u00a0rescue and law enforcement operations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Remote Work\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n With expanded\u00a0in-office\u00a0requirements\u00a0looming, remote work\u00a0remains\u00a0a top priority. The employer\u2019s decision to meet\u00a0virtually these\u00a0round highlights what we already know:\u00a0remote work works. We emphasized its importance for accessibility, caregiving responsibilities, and rising commuting costs.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Reproductive Health\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n We tabled proposals to better support members experiencing reproductive health issues, including menopause, endometriosis, and infertility.\u00a0They\u00a0also include paid time off when pregnancies do not result in a live birth.\u00a0These\u00a0provisions\u00a0aim\u00a0to provide paid leave and protect members\u2019 dignity\u00a0\u2014 something the current accommodation process\u00a0fails to\u00a0do.\u00a0<\/p>\n What\u00a0comes\u00a0next\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Declaring an impasse triggers the next step in the collective bargaining process.\u00a0PSAC\u00a0will request conciliation through the Federal Public Sector\u00a0Labour\u00a0Relations and Employment Board.\u00a0<\/p>\n Show your support for your bargaining team\u00a0<\/p>\n You are our strength at the bargaining table.\u00a0There\u00a0are many ways to\u00a0get engaged and show support, including:\u00a0<\/p>\n Members can also strengthen our collective voice in other ways, including:\u00a0<\/p>\n
