{"id":642639,"date":"2026-05-02T08:17:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T08:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/642639\/"},"modified":"2026-05-02T08:17:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T08:17:10","slug":"chase-claypool-attempting-nfl-comeback-with-packers-tryout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/642639\/","title":{"rendered":"Chase Claypool attempting NFL comeback with Packers tryout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chase Claypool is giving it another crack at the NFL.<\/p>\n<p>Claypool, who has not played an NFL snap since January 2024, is participating in the Packers\u2019 rookie minicamp on a tryout basis to try to get back into the league.<\/p>\n<p>The tryout camp, which lasts two days, is the 27-year-old\u2019s first shot to make an impression with an NFL team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s had some great film out there,\u201d Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters after practice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packersnews.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/packers\/2026\/05\/01\/veteran-receiver-chase-claypool-among-tryouts-at-packers-rookie-minicamp\/89874545007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s been productive and he looks like he\u2019s in great shape. And he\u2019s big. We\u2019ll see how it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Claypool found himself out of the league for the 2025 season after being released by the Bills a year prior due to a toe injury during training camp.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2025, Claypool announced his intentions to make an NFL comeback in a post on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI tore a ligament and a tendon in my second toe and have been rehabbing, working out, and recovering every day for the past year,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DLqqupNv-P0\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=18df0dac-6ffe-4c20-92db-1be447f7cbcc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Claypool said on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cI am back to being the strongest and fastest I\u2019ve ever been and couldn\u2019t be more excited to step back out on the field and let my actions speak for themselves.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39260797\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/stretches-nfl-football-teams-rookie-126794844.jpg\" alt=\"Green Bay Packers' Chase Claypool (89) stretching during rookie minicamp.\" class=\"wp-image-39260797\"  \/>Green Bay Packers\u2019 Chase Claypool (89) stretches during the NFL football team\u2019s rookie minicamp, Friday, May 1, 2026, in Green Bay, Wis. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what\u2019s been suppressed these last two years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following a standout college career at Notre Dame, Claypool was selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and spent parts of his first three professional seasons in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Claypool immediately made an impact on the Steelers in his rookie season, racking up 873 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 62 receptions.<\/p>\n<p>He slightly regressed during the following seasons, however, before being traded to the Bears midway through the 2022 season.<\/p>\n<p>Less than a year later, the Bears sent Claypool off to the Dolphins early in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Chase Claypool is giving it another crack at the NFL.
