Alex Fitzpatrick is not letting the success get to his head.<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s an unfamiliar consistency to the type of happiness he\u2019s been feeling since winning at the Zurich Classic with his older brother Matt last week<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The win in New Orleans earned Fitzpatrick a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour, a tidal wave experience that has not subsided for the 27-year-old Englishman.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe text messages and stuff has slowed down, but the overwhelming feeling of like joy and happiness has yet to go away,\u201d said Fitzpatrick after shooting a 6-under 66 during his second round at the Cadillac Championship, where he\u2019s making his card-carrying debut this week. \u201cI think for me this year it\u2019s going to be a whirlwind and no matter what happens it will be a success. I can\u2019t believe how many people have come up to me and congratulated me and players and caddies and staff, it\u2019s been incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick is tied for sixth place, seven back of Cam Young, who is threatening to runaway with the event<\/a>. But that hasn\u2019t kept the younger Fitzpatrick from enjoying the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning with my brother kind of far exceeded any expectations I ever had,\u201d he told reporters of the dramatic, record-setting win over Kristofer Reitan and Kris Ventura. \u201cI can\u2019t quite describe the feeling I had tapping in and looking over at my brother on 18. It\u2019s impossible to try and translate into word. … I\u2019m sure the rest of this year you\u2019ll see me with a mile on my face no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n

While he\u2019s certainly appreciating the joy the past five days \u2014 and prioritizing rest as he prepares for one of the busiest stretches on the Tour schedule, Fitzpatrick said he\u2019s not playing any freer this week.<\/p>\n

Doral has not hosted a PGA Tour event since 2016<\/a> and there\u2019s a $20 million signature event purse at stake. <\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick brothers celebrate Zurich Classic win with emotional hug on 18<\/p>\n

Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick spoke to Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine after winning the Zurich Classic, discussing the “grit” it took facing adversity on the back nine at TPC Louisiana. <\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick, who made his Tour debut as an amateur at the 2022 Valspar Championship, admitted that there\u2019s still loads of expectations that he put on himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was unbelievable to win, but then you come out here and you\u2019re expected to compete and you expect to play well and there\u2019s always that that you want to try and perform every week,\u201d he explained. \u201cFor me everything\u2019s a bonus at this stage, which does help, but I\u2019m still a golfer at the end of the day and I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll hit bad shots and I\u2019ll still get annoyed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Wake Forest grad and DP World Tour winner emphasized, though, that he\u2019s trying to stay present this weekend \u2014 and however many more he qualifies to play in while on Tour through 2028. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s bigger things in life than golf, and as much as it was amazing to win this week, I\u2019m just trying to enjoy it,\u201d he said \u201cThat\u2019s the big thing for me. If I can go out there and enjoy myself, doesn\u2019t matter what happens, I\u2019ll be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n
