During Thursday night\u2019s Jimmy Kimmel Live! opening monologue, the late-night host, 58, fired back at Donald\u2019s latest retort, demanding to know when ABC plans to take action <\/a>against Kimmel over his recent \u201cwidow\u201d joke about First Lady<\/a> Melania Trump. <\/p>\n \u201cWhen is ABC Fake News Network firing seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently presides over one of the Lowest Rated shows on Television? People are angry. It better be soon!!!\u201d Donald wrote Thursday morning on Truth Social. <\/p>\n Responding to the president\u2019s jab <\/a>later that night, the comedian said: \u201cOr what?<\/p>\n \u201cIf incompetently presiding over not just one of but the lowest rating in history is the reason I should be fired, then we should both be out of a job!\u201d he quipped. <\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re not doing too good either!\u201d Kimmel said, referencing a recent headline about Trump\u2019s approval rating slipping to a \u201crecord low [for his] current term.\u201d<\/p>\n The Independent has contacted the White House for comment.<\/p>\n Kimmel has become the latest target<\/a> of Donald\u2019s fury after he joked that Melania had the glow of an \u201cexpectant widow\u201d earlier this month. Days later, a gunman opened fire at the annual White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner <\/a>and was apprehended at the scene. Attorney General Todd Blanche has said that investigators believe the suspected shooter, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was targeting members of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n In light of the incident, the Trumps have lashed out at Kimmel over the joke about Melania, despite it being delivered days earlier.<\/p>\n \u201cKimmel\u2019s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country,\u201d Melania wrote Monday on X. \u201cHis monologue about my family isn\u2019t comedy \u2014 his words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness within America.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople like Kimmel shouldn\u2019t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate. A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him.<\/p>\n \u201cEnough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC\u2019s leadership enable Kimmel\u2019s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n Kimmel later defended his divisive joke during Monday night\u2019s episode, describing it as a light roast about the couple\u2019s age difference and \u201cnot, by any stretch of the definition, a call to assassination.\u201d<\/p>\n But the falling out from the joke has extended beyond social media.
