Dave Grohl<\/a> has revealed that Foo Fighters<\/a> were forced to rename their latest album because of Wicked: For Good<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The frontman recently sat down with Radio X\u2019s John Kennedy to discuss \u2018Your Favorite Toy<\/a>\u2019, which arrived last Friday (April 24), featuring previously-released singles \u2018Caught In The Echo\u2019,\u00a0\u2018Asking For A Friend\u2019<\/a>, and\u00a0\u2018Of All People\u2019<\/a>, as well as the record\u2019s\u00a0title track<\/a> \u2013 which may well have been different if it weren\u2019t for the Wicked sequel.<\/p>\n

\u201cActually, you know what I wanted to call the record? I wanted to call the record \u2018For Good\u2019, because that song, \u2018Your Favourite Toy\u2019, at first I called it \u2018For Good,\u2019\u201d Grohl explained. \u201cIn that song, \u2018Your Favourite Toy,\u2019 it says, \u2018Get back, hear that boy \/ Someone threw away your favourite toy for good.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

After \u2018For Good\u2019 popped into his head as a potential album title, he said he realised it was a good one not only for the song, but to frame the entire album. \u201cThey could have more than a few meanings,\u201d he said, \u201cbut I\u2019m like, \u2018That\u2019s kind of nice \u2013 \u2018For Good.’\u201d<\/p>\n

However, his excitement was dampened when he learned of the second Wicked film\u2019s title, and continued: \u201cThat Wicked movie came out, and it\u2019s called Wicked: For Good. And I was so pissed! So, then I changed the title of the song, and then it just became the title of the album.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It comes after the Foos\u00a0dropped a zombie apocalypse-style video for \u2018Spit Shine\u2019, which was written and directed by Grohl<\/a>. Before sharing visuals for that single, the band dropped by\u00a0Saturday Night Live UK\u00a0<\/a>last weekend to\u00a0perform \u2018Caught in the Echo\u2018 and \u2018Child Actor\u2019 live for the first time<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While in London to celebrate their album launch recently,\u00a0Grohl and Pat Smear surprised fans attending an album listening party<\/a>, walking into the event while one fan was midway through a karaoke rendition of their 1997 track \u2018Monkey Wrench\u2019.<\/p>\n

NME\u00a0gave the record three-and-a-half stars\u00a0in a review which read<\/a>: \u201cVocally, Grohl has rediscovered his roar, but lyricism has never been his strongest suit, and much of it here is throwaway; those looking for signs of where his head is at after his\u00a0infidelity scandal<\/a>\u00a0two years ago will be largely disappointed.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut a fascinating exception is \u2018Child Actor\u2019, on which Grohl \u2013 who\u2019s come to relish the spotlight after 30 years as the Foos\u2019 frontman \u2013 unflinchingly examines his need for validation; it is the sound of somebody who has knocked themselves off their own perch searching for answers in the mirror.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Your Favorite Toy\u2019 is a few more tracks of that depth away from being the most vital Foo Fighters record since 1997\u2019s \u2018The Colour and the Shape\u2019. For now, at least, they have remembered that no-frills punk, played fast and loud, suits them much better than middle-of-the-road dad-rock.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foo Fighters will be heading out on\u00a0a European stadium tour that is set to include two nights at Liverpool\u2019s Anfield Stadium<\/a>\u00a0at the end of June. They will also\u00a0be playing a range of major European shows this summer<\/a>,\u00a0as well as\u00a0a North American stadium tour for the summer<\/a>, and they have also just announced\u00a0an Australian and New Zealand tour for late 2026 and early 2027<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In other news, Grohl recently\u00a0recalled the time he accidentally insulted\u00a0<\/a>David Bowie<\/a>, saying that he \u201cbackpedalled so fast\u201d, and revealed the boozy secret to keeping his vocal cords in a healthy condition<\/a> \u2013 only to later say it was \u201call a lie\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n
