When the winning numbers are revealed Tuesday in Secaucus, N.J. the Vancouver Canucks<\/a> are hoping to end up with the first overall pick.<\/p>\n

Henrik and Daniel Sedin<\/a> will be representing the Canucks for the draft lottery this year, president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford confirmed to Postmedia on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery appropriate,\u201d he said of the choice to send the Hall of Famers to the NHL Network\u2019s studios.<\/p>\n

The Canucks have never picked first overall, though they were set to do so for the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.<\/p>\n

Somewhat famously, then-GM Brian Burke picked up the first overall pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning in a trade that saw him move the fourth overall pick, which he\u2019d acquired from Chicago, and a pair of third-round picks in exchange. But he wanted to call the Sedins to the stage together, so he worked out a deal with Atlanta<\/a> to hand the Thrashers the first overall pick in exchange for a promise to pick Patrik Stefan rather than either Swede.<\/p>\n

The Canucks had ended up with the third overall pick after the initial draft lottery and held onto it, thus picking the twins second and third overall: Technically it was Daniel who went second and Henrik third, befitting their future numbers of 22 and 33.<\/p>\n

This year, the Canucks have an 25.5 per cent chance of picking first overall, an 18.8 per cent chance of picking second and a 55.7 per cent chance of picking third.<\/p>\n
