Fresh off her 2025\u00a0Canada Reads<\/a>\u00a0win, Shayla Stonechild\u00a0has signed a deal to write\u00a0her own memoir.<\/p>\n

Set to publish in spring 2027,\u00a0Between Two Worlds chronicles\u00a0Stonechild’s path to healing through connection to\u00a0her Red River M\u00e9tis and Plains Cree cultures as well as the Indian yogic philosophy she’s studied.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“A part of me always knew I would one day share my story because of the path that was carved before me,” she told CBC Books.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It’s for those wanting to deepen their own healing journey. It offers solutions towards multi-generational healing, guided by the wisdom of my ancestors and the ancient teachings of yoga.”<\/p>\n

Between Two Worlds\u00a0is the first in a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster, acquired by senior editor katherena vermette. The second book, also nonfiction, will be published in spring 2029.<\/p>\n

Stonechild, a podcaster and wellness advocate, is an avid reader of nonfiction. She brought her love and appreciation of true stories to Canada Reads<\/a>\u00a02025, where she championed the memoir\u00a0A Two-Spirit Journey<\/a>\u00a0by Ma-Nee Chacaby, with Mary Louisa Plummer.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0A Two-Spirit Journey<\/a>,\u00a0Ma-Nee Chacaby, an\u00a0Ojibwa-Cree lesbian who grew up in a remote northern Ontario community, tells the story of how she\u00a0overcame experiences with abuse and alcohol addiction to become a counsellor and lead Thunder Bay’s first gay pride parade.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“In today’s society, vulnerability is often seen as a weakness and I think that’s what Ma-Nee has, that’s her strength,” said Stonechild on the last day of Canada Reads<\/a>.\u00a0“For me reading it, I was like, ‘Oh, wow, I do have the power to share both the dark and the light because that’s a part of the human experience.'”<\/p>\n

Reflecting back now that her own publishing journey has begun, Stonechild said, “Ma-Nee\u00a0inspired me to finally put the dream into action and write my own story.”<\/p>\n

Stonechild\u00a0founded the Matriarch Movement, an online platform, podcast and nonprofit that amplifies Indigenous voices and provides wellness opportunities for\u00a0Indigenous women and two-spirit individuals.<\/p>\n

She is also a global yoga ambassador for Lululemon and is the first Indigenous person featured on Yoga Journal’s cover. Stonechild has hosted APTN’s\u00a0Red Earth Uncovered,\u00a0appeared on Season 9 of\u00a0Amazing Race Canada\u00a0and co-hosted ET Canada’s\u00a0Artists & Icons:\u00a0Indigenous Entertainers in Canada,\u00a0for which she won two Canadian Screen Awards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Fresh off her 2025\u00a0Canada Reads\u00a0win, Shayla Stonechild\u00a0has signed a deal to write\u00a0her own memoir.
