<\/p>\n\n A plane landing at Newark Liberty International Airport hit a streetlight and a tractor-trailer on the nearby highway on Sunday, injuring the truck\u2019s driver, according to the New Jersey State Police.\n <\/p>\n
\n The United Airlines Boeing 767, flying from Venice, Italy, was going more than 160 miles an hour when it crossed over the New Jersey Turnpike, just outside of the airport, according to flight tracking site Flightradar24.\n <\/p>\n
\n A preliminary investigation shows a tire from the plane\u2019s landing gear and the underside of the plane \u201ccollided with a pole and a tractor-trailer. The pole then struck a Jeep,\u201d New Jersey State Police spokesman SFC Charles Marchan said in a statement. \u201cThe driver of the tractor-trailer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Dashcam video from the truck showed the driver traveling along the road as the sound of the plane\u2019s engines grew louder. Suddenly, the plane\u2019s landing gear tires struck the truck, shaking it and sending shards of glass flying.\n <\/p>\n
\n Warren Boardley of Baltimore was heading north on the turnpike to deliver bread products to a Newark airport depot when the incident occurred, Chuck Paterakis, senior vice president of transportation for Schmidt Bakery and co-owner of H&S Family of Bakeries, told CNN.\n <\/p>\n
\n Boardley sustained cuts to his arm from broken glass but did not suffer serious injuries and was able to pull over safely, according to Paterakis, who added Boardley is expected to be released from the hospital later tonight.\n <\/p>\n
\n Patrick Oyulu was driving on the highway when he saw the low flying plane and felt a huge gust of wind go over him.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cIt was just coming directly in front of the truck \u2026 I just saw smoke and debris,\u201d he told CNN. \u201cI think (the truck was) trying to evasively maneuver out of its way or something, but they were cornered.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n More than 200 passengers and 10 crew members were on board the plane, the airline said.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe aircraft landed safely, taxied to the gate normally and no passengers or crew were injured,\u201d United said in a statement. \u201cOur maintenance team is evaluating damage to the aircraft.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe will conduct a rigorous flight safety investigation into the incident and our crew has been removed from service as part of the process,\u201d United said.\n <\/p>\n
\n The National Transportation Safety Board is sending an investigator to Newark and will analyze the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder as part of their investigation, the agency announced.<\/a>\n <\/p>\n \n Runway 29, where the plane landed, starts less than 400 feet from the edge of the busy New Jersey Turnpike. It is not always used, but when wind conditions are right, it can see numerous landings, which can startle drivers as planes pass at low altitudes over the highway.\n <\/p>\n
