Surrey council on April 27 amended the Surrey Building Bylaw to streamline city hall\u2019s building permit process by cancelling the requirement for landscape drawings to be finalized prior to permits being issued.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis targeted amendment reflects lessons learned through implementation and supports council\u2019s objectives of timely, predictable, and streamlined development approvals while continuing to ensure high-quality development outcomes,\u201d Ron Gill, Surrey\u2019s general manager of planning and development, told council in a corporate report<\/a>.<\/p>\n While landscape design is still a \u201crequired and critical\u201d component of the review process, Gill noted, city staff decided that finalizing the drawings \u201cdoes not materially affect the technical review of building permit submissions.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOperational experience has shown that building permit reviews can proceed effectively using approved architectural drawings, without requiring finalized landscape plans at the point of early building permit intake,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n Councillor Pardeep Kooner asked Gill if \u201cin-progress\u201d applicants will be advised of this amendment. \u201cAre you sending a letter, email?\u201d she asked.
