A man is facing charges after a series of incidents at a southeast Calgary construction site led police to recover thousands of dollars in stolen equipment.<\/p>\n
Calgary police say more than $46,000 worth of tools and machinery were taken from a job site near Barlow Trail and 61 Avenue SE sometime between the afternoon of Apr. 23 and morning of Apr. 24. <\/p>\n
Investigators believe the suspect caused extensive damage, tampered with security cameras, spray\u2011painted graffiti, stole tools, and left the scene in a truck also taken from the site.<\/p>\n
Police reviewed security footage from nearby businesses and saw two men moving stolen items north of 61 Avenue SE. <\/p>\n
Officers searched the area and found a large bin and a Dewalt 60V brushless snowblower hidden in nearby trees. Both were returned to the owners.<\/p>\n
The stolen truck was later located near an encampment along 50 Avenue, east of 52 Street SE.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday afternoon, officers approached a man near the recovered truck who matched one of the suspects seen on video. Police say he was carrying a large knife, but was arrested without incident.<\/p>\n
A 42-year-old man has been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
