{"id":650713,"date":"2026-05-06T03:37:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T03:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/650713\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T03:37:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T03:37:14","slug":"dangerous-violation-jason-kenney-lawyering-up-after-alleged-centurion-project-leak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/650713\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Dangerous violation\u2019: Jason Kenney lawyering up after alleged Centurion Project leak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Questions are swirling over who knew \u2014 and for how long \u2014 that the personal information of millions of Albertans was openly available for all to see on the website of an <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/alberta-separatism\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alberta separatist<\/a> group.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/jason-kenney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Kenney<\/a> says he\u2019s considering legal action after his address was allegedly shared at a meeting by the separatist group \u2014 which is run by the man who boasted about leading the charge to get the former premier ousted from office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand that my personal information, including my home address, was shared publicly on a screen at a recent Alberta separatist event,\u201d Kenney said <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jkenney\/status\/2051789277818921367\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">in a statement posted to his social media Tuesday afternoon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-blockquote__content l-article__blockquoteContent\">\u201cIt was also recorded on video, and is now circulating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The data came from the Republican Party of Alberta\u2019s legitimate copy of a list of electors, that Elections Alberta said unlawfully ended up in the hands of <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/the-centurion-project\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Centurion Project <\/a>\u2014 a group committed to getting Alberta to leave Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The names, addresses and electoral districts of <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11823997\/alberta-elector-list-breach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">millions of Albertans were posted in a searchable online database<\/a> for an unknown amount of time before a court order forced the separatist group to take it down last week.<\/p>\n<p>The Centurion Project is led by long-time political organizer David Parker, who has said the goal is to recruit and identify those who support the idea ahead of a potential fall referendum. Take Back Alberta later helped galvanize support to help Danielle Smith win the UCP leadership party race to take Kenney\u2019s place.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past few years I have received no shortage of threats from people broadly associated with the separatist\/antivax \/far right movement in Alberta,\u201d Kenney said in his statement.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767930311_275_national.jpg\" alt=\"Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won't miss a trending story.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won&#8217;t miss a trending story.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-blockquote__content l-article__blockquoteContent\">\u201cSo it is disturbing that my personal information is now broadly available, particularly in those circles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kenney said while he was targeted specifically, the broader data breach may also affect many other Albertans such as domestic violence survivors, journalists, activists, judges, and other public servants for years to come. Kenney added he is lawyering up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-blockquote__content l-article__blockquoteContent\">\u201cI will retain legal counsel to seek advice on recourse regarding this outrageous and potentially dangerous violation of my personal privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tUCP staff attended meeting about voter database before website shut down<\/p>\n<p>The Centurion Project meeting in question took place virtually on April 16.<\/p>\n<p>The United Conservative Party caucus confirmed some of its staff attended the meeting, where the aim was to discuss how to access the website that\u2019s now the focus of data breach investigations.<\/p>\n<p>Staff regularly attend meetings of political interest and, in this case, organizers told them the database was obtained legally, the UCP said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The caucus statement came shortly after the Opposition NDP said it has video evidence of the April 16 meeting with UCP attendance, and that authorities should have been alerted.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The NDP said the list of attendees and a video recording of the call identify a \u201cRob Smith\u201d and an \u201cArundeep Sandhu\u201d were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The president of the UCP is named Rob Smith and the UCP caucus director of stakeholder relations is named Arundeep Sandhu.<\/p>\n<p>The NDP is demanding answers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means that the premier\u2019s own staff and her most senior party officials knew about this data breach and did nothing,\u201d Opposition NDP leader Naheed Nenshi said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-video__image\" alt=\"Click to play video: 'Questions over what Elections Alberta can investigate in wake of alleged voter list leak'\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6P-LIST-FOLO.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"   data-\/><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t4:16<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tQuestions over what Elections Alberta can investigate in wake of alleged voter list leak\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Politics<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The NDP claimed The Centurion Project members demonstrated at the meeting how to use the database to search for personal information of Albertans and allegedly used the former premier as an example.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJason Kenney\u2019s personal information was shared on screen with all meeting attendees.
