{"id":652295,"date":"2026-05-06T20:54:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T20:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/652295\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T20:54:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T20:54:08","slug":"baby-formula-price-switching-defrauds-businesses-of-nearly-1000-brampton-man-charged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/652295\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby formula \u2018price switching\u2019 defrauds businesses of nearly $1,000, Brampton man charged"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police in Guelph have charged a Brampton man with fraud after allegedly \u201cprice switching\u201d baby formula for cheaper items at self-checkout machines.<\/p>\n<p>The Guelph Police Service say the incidents happened at four businesses on Feb. 7 in a one-hour period, when a male suspect purchased baby formula through self check-out machines.<\/p>\n<p>But investigators say the man instead scanned the formula, worth nearly $100 each, as an item valued at less than $1.<\/p>\n<p>The total loss to the businesses was nearly $1,000, police say.<\/p>\n<p>A suspect was identified after images were shared in a Guelph Police Service news release, and police say a 24-year-old man from Brampton was arrested on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The man has been charged with seven counts of fraud under $5,000.
