Work has begun on transforming a Vancouver landmark into a giant recreation of the official match ball of the FIFA World Cup 2026.<\/p>\n
The project will involve the installation of up to 131 customized panels on the city\u2019s iconic Science World dome and will take around four weeks to install, depending on weather.<\/p>\n
\u201cForty years after it first welcomed the world at Expo 86, the dome that now houses Science World is proud to be part of another extraordinary moment in Vancouver\u2019s history,\u201d said Tracy Redies, president and CEO of Science World.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis unique installation is a bold feat of engineering and a testament to what is possible through creativity and collaboration. We are excited to welcome visitors from around the world and be part of an experience that will inspire and unite people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Destination Vancouver president Royce Chwin says the project is about creating a \u201cglobally iconic image that immediately connects Vancouver to the FIFA World Cup and showcases our city\u2019s creativity and ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n
As well as the visual display of turning the building into the adidas Trionda, the facility will host a \u201cSoccer & Technology from the FIFA\u201d museum. This will run from May 15 to Sept. 7.<\/p>\n
