{"id":653232,"date":"2026-05-07T07:11:41","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T07:11:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/653232\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T07:11:41","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T07:11:41","slug":"more-complainants-come-forward-leading-to-additional-sexual-assault-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/653232\/","title":{"rendered":"More complainants come forward leading to additional sexual assault charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Background<br \/>In April 2025, police received a report of a sexual assault involving a woman who met a man through a dating app. The woman had communicated with the suspect through online dating platforms such as Facebook Dating, Bumble and Tinder. The woman was later invited to the suspect\u2019s home where investigators believe the suspect drugged and sexually assaulted her.<\/p>\n<p>William McMullin was arrested on March 17, 2026, and charged with multiple criminal charges. At the time of his arrest, police had confirmed four adult, female complainants.<\/p>\n<p>Following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edmontonpolice.ca\/News\/MediaReleases\/DatingAppAssaultsMarch25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a news release<\/a> issued by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) on March 25, 2026, five more women came forward. As a result, an additional 10 criminal charges have been laid \u2013 22 in total \u2013 have been laid. These charges\u00a0include\u00a0sexual assault, administering a stupefying substance, assault with a weapon, voyeurism, assault, mischief under $5,000, intimidation, unlawful confinement and criminal harassment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Investigators believe that McMullin may have offended in both Calgary and Edmonton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that coming forward can take immense courage, and for many people, it may take time,\u201d says Staff\u00a0Sergeant\u00a0Brian McGuigan of the EPS Sexual Assault Section. \u201cIf you believe you were harmed, you are not alone. Our investigators are committed to approaching every report with compassion, dignity and care, and we encourage anyone with information, no matter how long ago the incident occurred, to reach out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McMullin remains in remand at this time.
