{"id":653675,"date":"2026-05-07T12:15:29","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T12:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/653675\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T12:15:29","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T12:15:29","slug":"targeted-detours-to-reopen-vancouvers-broadway-corridor-sooner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/653675\/","title":{"rendered":"Targeted detours to reopen Vancouver&#8217;s Broadway corridor sooner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The province is aiming to reopen parts of Vancouver\u2019s Broadway corridor that are closed due to the subway construction sooner.<\/p>\n<p>Targeted car detours during the Broadway Subway construction are reducing the time that residents, businesses, and commuters are affected by the work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re using what we learned at Mount Pleasant to cut down disruption times at the Broadway-City Hall Station,\u201d said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Transportation and Transit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinishing construction faster means overall disruption for the area is shortened, and Broadway fully open sooner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By using a one-block detour at the Mount Pleasant Station site, there was a reduction in road-restoration time by more than 50 per cent versus working without a detour.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Broadway-Closure-Cambie-Alberta-4-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Construction along the Broadway Subway\" class=\"wp-image-4429785\"  \/>Construction along the Broadway Subway line (CityNews Image)<\/p>\n<p>So far, work between Main Street and Quebec Street is progressing ahead of schedule, according to the province.<\/p>\n<p>Paving has begun and one lane in each direction will reopen on May 20. This is one week earlier than planned.<\/p>\n<p>All four lanes of Broadway will reopen in July instead of September, shortening the time with single-lane traffic by two months.<\/p>\n<p>The province has announced that the traffic deck at Broadway-City Hall Station will start this summer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Broadway-Closure-Cambie-Alberta-3-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Cement being poured into the Broadway Subway line.\" class=\"wp-image-4429784\"  \/>With one-block detours, the province aims to reopen the Broadway corridor sooner. (CityNews Image)<\/p>\n<p>Using the same one-block detour technique, a detour between Alberta Street and Cambie Street will reduce the duration of disruption at this location by 50 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses will remain fully accessible as sidewalks remain open and parking will be available nearby.<\/p>\n<p>The work on the traffic deck will begin following the FIFA World Cup this summer, with two weeks notice being given to commuters before work begins.<\/p>\n<p>The province states that with the detour, the work will take approximately six months.
