\n\tMelissa Barrera<\/a> is getting back in the horror game.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cScream\u201d and \u201cScream VI\u201d star is to take the lead in upcoming feature \u201cInhabit,\u201d Variety can reveal. The film comes from writer\/director Adam Alleca (\u201cStandoff,\u201d \u201cThe Last House on the Left,\u201d \u201cDelirium\u201d) and is described as blending \u201cpsychological horror with relentless supernatural dread\u201d and offering a \u201cchilling exploration of trauma, motherhood, and the responsibility of unfathomable power.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLogical Pictures Group are financing the project and launching international sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Market, and is jointly repping U.S. rights with Range Select.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cInhabit\u201d follows a young woman who, following a traumatic life-changing event, moves into a rundown apartment complex in search of a fresh start. When she\u2019s terrorized by bizarre occurrences \u2014\u00a0unhinged neighbors, uncanny stalkers, unprovoked violence \u2014 she comes to believe she\u2019s being targeted by a possessive force that breaks her understanding of reality. As the synopsis reads: \u201cA force that can only be overcome by confronting the darkest parts of her own nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTrue horror means forcing the audience to confront a universal existential fear no one\u2019s ever dared to tell a story about before. I\u2019ve found such a fear in \u2018Inhabit,’\u201d said Alleca. \u201cMy inspirations are the kind of audacious, character-driven thrillers I love, like \u2018Rosemary\u2019s Baby,\u2019 \u2018The Exorcist,\u2019 and \u2018Get Out.\u2019 Their innovation is my North Star.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is being produced by Ric Roman Waugh<\/a>, Brendon Boyea and Kenner Bolt for Cinemachine, the production company behind \u201cShelter,\u201d \u201cGreenland,\u201d and \u201cGreenland Migration,\u201d alongside Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Fiore, Ryan Wickers and Andrei Kamarowsky for Logical Pictures Group.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWith \u2018Inhabit,\u2019 Adam has crafted a story that can shatter open the conversation on a subject often considered taboo,\u201d said Boyea from Cinemachine. \u201cDriven by his singular vision, it delivers a deeply intimate and extremely unnerving experience. \n\t\u201cInhabit\u201d marks the first major film project announcement starring Barrera since she was fired from \u201cScream 7\u201d and let go by WME after posting social media messages criticizing the Israeli government for its deadly assaults on Gaza in late 2023. In a recent interview with Variety<\/a>, she discussed the incident and being sidelined from the industry for over a year.
