Canadian insurance company Manulife<\/a> says that worldwide \u201cjet fuel shortages\u201d are now considered to be a \u201cknown event\u2019 with respect to Manulife Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance coverage.\u201d<\/p>\n

An advisory issued by Manulife<\/a> on the matter states that as of May 5, 2026, if the company\u2019s travel policy is purchased on or after May 5 and travel disruptions occur, then \u201cbenefits would not apply due to the current situation being a known event.\u201d<\/p>\n

If purchased before May 5, those who are insured \u201cmay be covered under their policy\u2019s misconnection or disruption benefits\u201d if \u201cthe current situation causes a delay or disruption to an insured\u2019s return home.\u201d<\/p>\n

If an insured flight is either cancelled or interrupted on or after the same date, \u201cbenefits related to this current situation would not apply, as it is now considered a known event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Manulife has a similar policy in place for flights to the Middle East and Cuba. The Middle East was classified as a \u201cknown event\u201d on Feb. 28, 2026, the same with Cuba as of Feb. 10, 2026.<\/p>\n
