The 2026 MLB Trade Deadline is still nearly three months away, but Boston Red Sox<\/a> Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow is already starting to think about how he can improve this year’s roster and position the Red Sox for the playoff race.<\/p>\n

Based on his comments to WEEI on Thursday<\/a>, Breslow expects to be aggressive at this year’s deadline, buying rather than selling.<\/p>\n

“Our hope and our expectation is over the next two and a half months that we have leading up to the deadline, we’re gonna play quality, consistent baseball that’s gonna end up with us winning a bunch of games,” Breslow said. “We’re gonna be in a position to make moves that improve our outlook in ’26. That was the expectation all offseason. That’s what we talked about all spring.”<\/p>\n

Breslow said those high expectations and goals<\/a> contributed to the team’s early dismissal of Alex Cora<\/a> and much of the coaching staff two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

“In terms of prioritizing 2026, a huge piece of the decision to make the changes that we did at the time that we did was because we believe that we have a really good team that’s capable of a deep run in ’26. That hasn’t changed at all,” Breslow added. “We’re constantly looking at ways to improve our roster. If there is something as we approach the deadline that makes sense, we’re absolutely gonna be aggressive in pursuing it.”<\/p>\n

Breslow’s first two trade deadlines with Boston have been underwhelming, especially last year when the team failed to land Joe Ryan<\/a> and overpaid for Dustin May instead<\/a>. If the Red Sox are in contention leading up to the deadline, Breslow will need to be more aggressive if he wants to significantly improve the team.<\/p>\n
