Residents are being asked to help shape the future of accessibility in Brampton.<\/p>\n
The City of Brampton has launched a public survey as it begins work on its next Multi-Year Accessibility Plan, which will guide accessibility priorities and improvements from 2027 to 2031.<\/p>\n
City officials are encouraging people living with disabilities, caregivers and advocates to provide feedback to ensure the plan reflects lived experiences and addresses barriers across municipal services and public spaces.<\/p>\n
Under Ontario\u2019s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), municipalities are required to update their accessibility plans every five years. Brampton\u2019s current plan expires at the end of 2026.<\/p>\n
The city says community feedback will help determine priorities for the next phase of accessibility initiatives.<\/p>\n
Since launching its current accessibility plan in 2022, Brampton says it has introduced a number of improvements, including upgrades to city facilities, expanded accessible programming and services, staff accessibility training and hearing loop technology at 27 locations, including recreation centres, transit terminals, seniors\u2019 centres, Service Brampton sites and City Hall.<\/p>\n
Residents can also book one-on-one meetings with city staff, either virtually or in person, to discuss accessibility concerns and suggestions.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccessibility is about everyday experiences, how we move through our city, access services and feel included in our community,\u201d said Vanessa Tantalo, co-chair of Brampton\u2019s Accessibility Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cI encourage residents to share their voice and help shape a plan that reflects real needs and creates meaningful change for people of all abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n
The survey is open until June 30 at Brampton.ca\/MYAP.<\/p>\n
