{"id":65573,"date":"2025-08-13T03:25:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T03:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/65573\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T03:25:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T03:25:09","slug":"heat-event-to-end-in-gta-by-wednesday-night-environment-canada-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/65573\/","title":{"rendered":"Heat event to end in GTA by Wednesday night, Environment Canada says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hot and humid weather conditions\u00a0will come to an end for the\u00a0Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas and eastern Ontario by Wednesday night, Environment Canada says.<\/p>\n<p>According to the federal weather agency,\u00a0a slightly cooler and less humid air mass will slowly move into the region on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Temperatures Wednesday night will drop to the mid to upper teens,&#8221; the federal weather agency said in an updated heat warning on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>In Toronto, daytime highs on Tuesday will be about 30 to 33\u00a0C, with the humidity making it feel closer to 37 to 40. Overnight\u00a0lows will be between 20 to\u00a023\u00a0C.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the\u00a0daytime high will be 29\u00a0C, but will feel closer to 37 with the humidity. The low is expected to be\u00a018 C.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0forecast calls for a mainly cloudy Wednesday with a 40 per cent chance of showers. Mayor Olivia Chow says more needs to be done to improve the city\u2019s hot weather plan.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canada warns hot, humid air can\u00a0lead to worsening air quality.\u00a0The air quality health index\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/airquality\/pages\/onaq-001_e.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">for Toronto<\/a>\u00a0was at 3, or &#8220;low risk,&#8221;\u00a0as of Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>People are advised to drink water often, watch for signs of heat exhaustion and check on those at-risk for heat illnesses, according to\u00a0the federal weather agency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It suggests turning on air conditioning, using a fan and staying indoors to limit exposure to the heat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses,&#8221; Environment Canada said in its updated warning.<\/p>\n<p>Signs of heat stroke can include red and hot skin, dizziness and nausea.<\/p>\n<p>For residents looking to cool down during the heat warning, the city says Metro Hall is open around the clock as a cool space.
