Winkler Mayor Henry Siemens says improvements for the city\u2019s golf course parking lot\u00a0have been\u00a0approved as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the municipally owned facility.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The project will focus on paving and adding lighting to the existing lot, an upgrade Siemens says is both needed and well-timed as the course continues to see strong use.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe golf course group has been\u00a0really diligent\u00a0at\u00a0maintaining\u00a0that course and continuing to improve that course…\u00a0And where they believe some work\u00a0needs\u00a0to be done now, and certainly I\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0argue with it, would be some lighting on that parking lot and then paving.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Funding for the project will come primarily from the golf course group, with the City of Winkler contributing a 25 per cent share. Siemens says that partnership model continues to\u00a0benefit\u00a0the community, particularly because the course itself is a city-owned asset.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He notes that improvements made by the club\u00a0ultimately become\u00a0long-term assets for the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery improvement that they make is literally a donation to the city of Winkler.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Siemens adds that the project is also a reflection of strong local support, with both members and the corporate community stepping up to invest in the course\u2019s continued development.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd now that the members in the corporate community are prepared to also invest in that parking lot to help, again, improve what we have there, is something that we\u2019re very happy to see.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
