The Pan Am Pool will close to the public for more than a year to allow for major repairs, beginning next January.<\/p>\n

City documents seek a contractor to renew the two-storey, 163,000-square-foot (15,143-square-metre) structure at 25 Poseidon Bay, repairing the pool\u2019s main tank, diving towers and deck area, as well as a waterproof membrane and tiles.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pan Am Pool area will be closed to the general public for the duration of the project,\u201d the document states.<\/p>\n

The Pan Am Pool will close on Jan. 18, 2027 for substantial repairs including to the main tank, diving towers and deck area.<\/p>\n

The city plans to close the pool on Jan. 18, 2027 and reopen it about 16 months later.<\/p>\n

City documents note the facility\u2019s smaller east pool, locker rooms and east dryland training area will remain open during construction but access will be limited to \u201cselect user groups.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pool, which was originally built for the 1967 Pan American Games, has received previous upgrades, including a lap pool added in 2004 and a multipurpose addition in the late \u201890s.<\/p>\n

The city document describes the facility as Winnipeg\u2019s \u201cpremier\u201d and most used civic aquatic facility, hosting diving, swimming, artistic swimming and water polo events.<\/p>\n

The city has budgeted $4.7 million to repair the pool.<\/p>\n
