Former Dallas Mavericks majority owner and entrepreneur Mark Cuban is joining the ownership group of the Canadian Elite Basketball League\u2019s Brampton Honey Badgers, it was officially announced Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
The league said in a news release that Cuban has \u201clong-time relationships\u201d with Anthem Sports and Entertainment owner Leonard Asper, the Honey Badgers\u2019 majority owner, and former Mavericks executive Al Whitley, who is Brampton\u2019s current CEO.<\/p>\n
Cuban sold his majority stake in the Mavs in 2023 but still holds an approximate 27 per cent stake in the team under majority owner Patrick Dumont.<\/p>\n
\u201cCanadian basketball is probably the most underappreciated in the world,\u201d said Cuban in a news release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe talent here is through the roof and getting better by the day. The CEBL offers all of Canada the chance to see that amazing talent on display in exciting games that are fun and affordable for the entire family. I\u2019m excited to be part of this team, help build the Brampton fanbase, and to bring some of the same fun we had in Dallas to the Toronto area!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am thrilled that Mark has decided to formally join me on this journey after having already helped along the way, including introducing me to our current CEO Al Whitley,\u201d said Asper in the same release. \u201cNo one brings more basketball knowledge and winning culture than Mark, and all of us at the Honey Badgers are honoured to have him join this organization.\u201d<\/p>\n
