\t<\/p>\n \t<\/a> \t<\/a> \t<\/a> \t<\/a> \t<\/a> \t<\/a> <\/a> \t\t\t \t<\/a><\/p>\n SURREY, BC (TIP): A 27-year-old man from Punjab has been arrested and charged following a shooting investigation in Surrey that police believe is connected to ongoing extortion-related violence in the region.<\/p>\n The accused, Jaskaran Saroye, was arrested by the Surrey Police Service Extortion Response Team after officers executed a search warrant at a Surrey residence.<\/p>\n The incident took place shortly before 3 am on April 13 near 94A Avenue and 127 Street, where gunshots were fired into an occupied home. Although the residence sustained damage, no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n As per the press release of Surrey Police, investigators identified a suspect vehicle, leading police to obtain a warrant and arrest him with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team and other SPS units.<\/p>\n Saroye has been charged with discharging a firearm into a place while knowing, or being reckless as to whether, someone was present inside. Police confirmed that he remains in custody pending a bail hearing.<\/p>\n SPS Chief Constable Norm Lipinski called the shooting an \u201cextremely serious offence\u201d and said incidents involving gunfire into occupied homes pose a major threat to public safety.<\/p>\n Police have also publicly released Saroye\u2019s photo, saying the move could help investigators gather additional information about individuals and criminal networks connected to violent extortion activities in Surrey.<\/p>\n The city has experienced a rise in extortion-related violence targeting members of the South Asian, particularly Indian, community in recent years.<\/p>\n \t<\/p>\n \t<\/a> \t<\/a> \t<\/a> \t<\/a> \t<\/a> \t<\/a> <\/a> \t\t\t \t<\/a><\/p>\n \t
