{"id":658474,"date":"2026-05-09T16:11:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T16:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/658474\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T16:11:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T16:11:09","slug":"donegal-artist-awarded-international-arctic-circle-residency-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/658474\/","title":{"rendered":"Donegal artist awarded international Arctic Circle Residency Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Donegal artist has been awarded the international Arctic Circle Residency Award<\/p>\n<p>Alva Gallagher from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegallive.ie\/search?q=Killybegs&amp;idcanale=6&amp;idcanalericerca=6&amp;sortElement=data_pubblicazione,true&amp;page=1&amp;sortDefault=false\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Killybegs<\/a>\u2019 work involves a continuous exploration of oceanic movements and elements.<\/p>\n<p>She began to explore the deep sea at a young age and adores the solitude experienced in the depths of the water.<\/p>\n<p>Alva is now bound for Svalbard &#8211; a Norwegian archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole &#8211; \u201cto travel further north through the high Arctic to the North Pole to cast rubber moulds of glaciers for my new work \u2018Monuments\u2019, a body of work translating unstable glacial formations and ephemeral natural surfaces into permanent cast glass and bronze works.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegallive.ie\/news\/inishowen-md\/2078551\/inspirational-young-carrigans-farmer-shannon-is-outstanding-in-her-field.html\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Inspirational young Carrigans farmer Shannon is outstanding in her field!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The project builds from direct field encounters with ice formations and glacial surfaces, using mould-making and casting processes to preserve transient structures that are constantly shifting through melt, erosion and time.<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cWhile the work inevitably touches on climate and preservation.
