Shawn \u2018Clown\u2019 Crahan from\u00a0Slipknot<\/a> has revealed he needs heart surgery, saying he sometimes \u201cfeels like\u201d he is \u201cdying\u201d.<\/p>\n

The percussionist, 56,\u00a0is the Iowa metal band\u2019s sole remaining founding member, and in a recent appearance on Rick Rubin\u2019s\u00a0Tetragrammaton\u00a0podcast, he\u00a0opened up\u00a0about his need for cardio surgery\u00a0in the near future.<\/p>\n

He explained (via\u00a0ThePRP<\/a>):\u00a0\u201cI have a skipping\u00a0heart\u00a0and I got to get\u00a0a surgery. And I\u00a0found this\u00a0out after my last tour. I went in, I\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0feeling good, and I went\u00a0in\u00a0and the nurse was trying to get an EKG thing going on me or whatever and it just\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of fell asleep and I woke up. I\u2019m like, \u2018Are you going to get this thing?\u2019 And she\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s not working.\u2019 They thought I was having a heart attack right there. Anyway, my heart skips and apparently, I\u2019ve taught myself to be like a cross-country runner.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to explain that he was \u201coverweight\u201d\u00a0but his brain is \u201cso strong\u201d that it keeps his heart rate at 43 during the day. \u201cIt\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0happened since\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0been here with you, which is good, because\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0go from \u2018on,\u2019 to just straight up I feel like\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0dying. So, I got to get\u00a0a surgery.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a very\u00a0easy surgery.\u00a0You\u2019re\u00a0usually out on the same day.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0not like they rip you open. This is something about\u00a0the electricity.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

He said he thought at one stage he would require a pacemaker, which he quipped might be an excuse to stop touring with the band, but in fact doctors told him it would make life easier. \u201cI was like, I can\u2019t get out of this to save my life,\u201d he joked. \u201cI\u2019m like, there is nothing, not even my heart. It\u2019s going to be better because of Slipknot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month,\u00a0Slipknot finally released their forgotten album \u2018Look Outside Your Window\u2019 as part of Record Store Day 2026<\/a>. Teased as a record of \u201cexperimental, psychedelic\u201d outtakes since\u00a02019, the music was recorded around 2008 and had been a subject of fascination for fans of the band for years.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In 2024,\u00a0Clown\u00a0spoke\u00a0to\u00a0NME\u00a0about the album<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m really pleased about it and happy to finally be rid of it! What\u2019s nice though is that it isn\u2019t a hype thing, it\u2019s just something we did while we were doing other Slipknot albums. It was a very honest action to make music that wasn\u2019t Slipknot, but utilised the skills of guys with no rules. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s \u2018good\u2019, but I know that I love it. I make music for myself, but I hope that the people who waited and waited and waited think it was worth it too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reviewing the album,\u00a0NME\u00a0awarded it four stars and noted<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cWe always knew \u2018Look Outside Your Window\u2019 was going to be experimental.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0Taylor\u2019s desolate voice, over the\u00a0knee-jerk\u00a0intersection of heaviness and atmosphere, that fills it with the Slipknot fear factor, something normally summoned through masks and unrelenting brutality. \u2018Look Outside Your Window\u2019\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0exist without The Nine, and its unanswered mystery can finally be resolved, confirmed in their story as a seriously impressive cult classic.\u201d<\/p>\n
