President Trump ripped the NFL on Sunday, accusing the league of \u201cprice gouging\u201d longtime fans with its new push to move games to streaming<\/a> platforms.<\/p>\n

Trump said football bigs are making it harder and more expensive for fans to enjoy watching their favorite teams play as the franchise makes exclusive deals with Netflix and Amazon. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s something very sad when they take football away from many, many people,\u201d Trump told \u201cFull Measure with Sharyl Attkisson<\/a>,\u201d which airs on Sinclair Broadcast stations across the country. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s tough. It\u2019s a tough [one]. You\u2019ve got people that love football. They\u2019re great people. They don\u2019t make enough money to go and pay this,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s tough and they could be killing the golden goose.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the heart of the problem is the NFL\u2019s decision to move certain games to Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and Peacock, sending the average fan scrambling to sign up for each service.<\/p>\n

Thursday Night Football, for instance, streams exclusively on Amazon Prime, which starts at $14.99 a month.<\/p>\n

Trump seemed to support critics\u2019 assertion that the NFL\u2019s shift could also be a violation of the Sports Broadcasting Act and the antitrust exemption it grants to the league.<\/p>\n

Trump said he doesn\u2019t like the NFL\u2019s streaming model as the DOJ investigates a possible breach of antitrust law. REUTERS<\/p>\n

With the Department of Justice opening an antitrust investigation <\/a>against the NFL last month, Trump weighed in and stated flatly that he wasn\u2019t a fan of the new business model.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like it. They\u2019re making a lot of money. They could make a little bit less,\u201d he said of the NFL. \u201cThey could let the people see. You have people that live for Sunday.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThey can\u2019t think about anything else, and then all of a sudden they\u2019re going to have to pay a thousand dollars a game. It\u2019s crazy. I\u2019m not happy about it,\u201d the president concluded. <\/p>\n

The NFL has previously argued that viewers have already abandoned traditional broadcasters and have made streaming their go-to way to watch games. <\/p>\n

The league also maintains that the vast majority of its games are free on broadcast television, including all of the \u201cgames in the markets of the competing teams.\u201d <\/p>\n
