Independent MLA Becky Druhan is set to join the Nova Scotia Liberal Party, CBC News has learned.<\/p>\n
Multiple sources tell CBC that Druhan, the MLA for Lunenburg West, will make the announcement today in Bridgewater. <\/p>\n
The party has called a news conference in the South Shore town for 11 a.m. AT to “share an important update on the future of the caucus,” according to a notice it sent out Sunday evening.<\/p>\n
Druhan was first elected to the Nova Scotia legislature in 2021 as a Progressive Conservative, and served as education minister in Premier Tim Houston\u2019s cabinet.<\/p>\n

A few days later, she left the PC caucus.<\/a><\/p>\n At the time, Druhan said her decision to leave the party was based on \u201ca difference of principles\u201d between her views and those of party leadership. <\/p>\n She later talked about contending with staff interference during debate in the legislature and coaching that recommended MLAs know who the enemy was in a story.<\/a><\/p>\n During the recent winter session of the legislature, Druhan and fellow Independent MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin did much of the heavy lifting that extended debate and slowed the government\u2019s ability to pass its budget,<\/a> which contributed to increased public engagement in the process.<\/p>\n
