Stage B construction on the beleaguered pipe includes installing a new parallel steel feeder main along 34 Avenue NW between 73 Street and 89 Street.<\/p>\n
However, crews are starting with \u201ccross connection work\u201d to the future replacement pipe to connect to the wider water system on 77 Street NW between 33 and 34 Avenue and 83 Street NW between 33 and 34 Avenue.<\/p>\n
Once completed, construction for\u00a0the feeder main\u00a0on\u00a034 Avenue NW will proceed in June\u00a02026, starting at 79 and 80 streets, and between 85 and 86 streets.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0City\u00a0will use an open-cut\u00a0construction\u00a0method, excavating within the public right-of-way to install the new pipe.\u00a0This involves\u00a0digging\u00a0a trench\u00a0and restoring the surface to its pre-construction state.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn open-cut approach\u00a0was\u00a0selected\u00a0for several operational reasons, including that it is the fastest\u00a0option\u00a0for\u00a0urgently\u00a0replacing\u00a0the BSFM,\u201d the city said.<\/p>\n
This is expected to be completed by October 2026.<\/p>\n

As a result, residents in the area should expect traffic impacts, detours, noise, dust, temporary parking restrictions and short-term access changes during construction.<\/p>\n
The city is encouraging drivers to follow posted detours and use extra care when travelling through residential streets.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, officials say Stage A\u00a0microtunneling\u00a0construction, from\u00a0the\u00a0Shaganappi\u00a0Pump Station to 73 Street NW on the west side of the Bow River,\u00a0remains\u00a0on track.<\/p>\n
