{"id":663232,"date":"2026-05-11T23:21:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T23:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/663232\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T23:21:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T23:21:13","slug":"end-to-end-encrypted-rcs-messaging-begins-rolling-out-today-in-beta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/663232\/","title":{"rendered":"End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging begins rolling out today in beta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple and Google have led a cross-industry effort to bring end-to-end encryption to Rich Communication Services (RCS), making the cross-platform messaging format that replaces traditional SMS more secure and private.\n<\/p>\n<p>                 Starting today, end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging begins rolling out in beta for iPhone users running iOS 26.5 with <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/109526\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">supported carriers<\/a> and Android users on the latest version of Google Messages. When RCS messages are end-to-end encrypted, they can\u2019t be read while they\u2019re sent between devices. Users will know that a conversation is end-to-end encrypted when they see a new lock icon in their RCS chats. Encryption is on by default and will be automatically enabled over time for new and existing RCS conversations.<\/p>\n<p>iMessage was built with privacy in mind and has always been end-to-end encrypted.
