It was the New Zealand star’s first victory of the season, but his win was overshadowed by the shoddy FOX Sports broadcast that saw several on-track issues go unnoticed.

For example, with 10 laps remaining, Cody Ware crashed hard, leaving significant damage to the walls above a tunnel. However, NASCAR didn’t throw the caution flag — and the broadcast failed to show replays or angles of the incident initially.

Ultimately, fans were left stunned by the shoddy broadcast and camera angles. Even drivers were angered by the production, including Denny Hamlin, who spoke out against it on his ‘Actions Detrimental’ podcast.

“I mean, they didn’t follow a few wrecks that happened, that’s for sure,” Hamlin said. “But NASCAR has to get better with that. Like I’ve seen their control center at their production studio. There’s absolutely no excuse… you have cameras pointing in every direction of this racetrack.

Sign up to our NASCAR newsletter here.

There was no caution flag brought out even as Cody Ware spun out and crashed (Image: X @rubbinisracing)

“For you not to see Cody Ware destroyed in that final corner… holy cow, man. They need to say something about that. Not just, ‘We’ll look at it. We’re always looking to improve.’”

Ware’s crash may have been the hardest impact of the day, which makes FOX Sports’ decision to miss the incident all the more surprising. NASCAR also faces questions, given that the promotion failed even to throw a caution flag.

“It’s on both of them. It’s on both of them,” Hamlin said. “There’s a director somewhere in there in FOX’s production studio that’s looking at all the cameras. Surely there’s got to be someone.”

He added: “Take some accountability on this one. This was not acceptable.”

Ultimately, many different drivers and cars passed Ware’s wrecked car, which represented a genuine safety issue. Hamlin pointed out that there were too many people involved in overseeing the race and the cautions for a crash of that size to be overlooked.

“NASCAR has these monitors, and they have cameras pointing pretty much at every, it should be every corner,” Hamlin said. “I know I’ve seen it on ovals, they’ve got every corner and every angle kind of (set). Because they just don’t have the track workers that they used to have, because they’ve cut.

“Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut. And so there’s these 16 monitors, it could be 24, 36. It’s a lot. It’s a lot of monitors looking at the racetrack from all these different things to see things that necessarily are not being shown on TV.

“Somewhere there has to be multiple (people), it can’t be one person. I’m sorry, you can’t look at 24 monitors at one time. There has to be multiple people looking for dramatic events that’s going on that could be a hazard. Call it in. And then it’s got to get called to the next guy and then to the next guy. But you can’t just like, ‘Oh, we didn’t see that.’ No.”

Denny Hamlin fumed at NASCAR and the FOX Sports broadcast regarding the Cody Ware crash (Image: GETTY) Denny…

[446
5983,49,48,3932,36805,2475,634,82,245086
post-663448","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nascar","tag-broadcast","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-denny-hamlin","tag-fox-sports","tag-motorsport","tag-nascar","tag-sports","tag-watkins-glen-incident
["GET
