The\u00a0Buffalo Bills<\/a>\u00a0will play the first regular-season game at the new\u00a0Highmark Stadium\u00a0in\u00a0NFL Week 2, hosting the\u00a0Detroit Lions<\/a>\u00a0on Prime Video’s\u00a0Thursday Night Football\u00a0for their home opener, the league announced.<\/p>\n

This preview announcement comes ahead of the full schedule release<\/a> at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and NFL Network.<\/p>\n

For a franchise that had called their old building home since\u00a01973, this is more than a ribbon-cutting. It’s a primetime, national-audience launch of the next chapter for the team and its fans\u2014 and one that the league and front office mutually shared interest in showcasing on a global broadcast stage.<\/p>\n

Buffalo President of Football Operations and General Manager Brandon Beane\u00a0has spent this offseason actively bolstering the roster around\u00a0quarterback Josh Allen<\/a> by way of free agency and the NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

The Bills<\/a>‘ new home stadium will make its debut in a featured matchup against a competitive and physical NFC team as the\u00a0TNF\u00a0opener, complete with a National prime-time audience.<\/p>\n

Dan Campbell’s\u00a0Lions\u00a0remain one of the NFC’s more aggressive rosters in terms of playing style, along with a franchise quarterback in search of a Super Bowl championship as well. Like the Bills, the Lions restocked their roster with an eye on once again competing in the postseason.<\/p>\n

Like last year’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens<\/a>, Detroit provides an early gauge and measuring-stick opponent for Buffalo right off the bat.<\/p>\n

It’s anything but a soft-open for the team and their new stadium, as they are firmly in the spotlight.<\/p>\n

The Bills will debut a 2026 roster with a new look and turnover in personnel from last season, in addition to a new coach in former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Brady, and new coordinators across all three phases. Beane’s work this offseason, following a promotion and coaching staff change, will also be on display.<\/p>\n

The goal is the same, and that is to make it to and win the Super Bowl. The expectations will be that the changes will help the team get over the hump of falling short of that goal in the Division round or the AFC Championship game.<\/p>\n

Detroit will travel to face them in Orchard Park on\u00a0Thursday night, on\u00a0Prime Video, in a brand-new\u00a0Highmark Stadium\u00a0as the football world watches on.<\/p>\n
