{"id":664251,"date":"2026-05-12T10:39:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T10:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/664251\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T10:39:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T10:39:09","slug":"four-buildings-catch-fire-overnight-in-winnipeg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/664251\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Buildings Catch Fire Overnight in Winnipeg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"et_pb_title_meta_container\">May 11, 2026 11:36 AM | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chrisd.ca\/category\/news\/\" rel=\"category tag nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">News<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-perfmatters-preload=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-144574\" class=\"size-full wp-image-144574\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/firetrucks.jpg\" alt=\"Firetrucks\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-144574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(UFFW 867 \/ FILE)<\/p>\n<p>Winnipeg firefighters were kept busy overnight as they dealt with four structure fires Sunday evening through Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The Fire Paramedic Service says they were called to the first fire in a three-story mixed-use building on Notre Dame Avenue at 6:15 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>When they arrived, they managed to prevent what turned out to be a balcony fire from spreading to the building.<\/p>\n<p>No one was hurt, and the fire was likely an accident caused by \u201cthe careless disposal of smoking materials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second fire was at a rooming house on Spence Street at about 11:20 p.m. People inside the home escaped uninjured, but firefighters said they had to attack the fire from the outside due to heavy smoke inside.<\/p>\n<p>\nADVERTISEMENT <br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The fire was under control an hour later. There was no initial cause or damage estimates.<\/p>\n<p>A sprinkler system saved an apartment building on Guy Savoie Drive at 3:30 a.m.\u00a0 Monday. Firefighters found light smoke in the building when they arrived, and figured out that the apartment\u2019s sprinkler put out a fire.<\/p>\n<p>Damage was found in one suite and no one was hurt. The investigation continues and there are no damage estimates.<\/p>\n<p>The final fire was on Waverley Street just before 5:30 a.m., at a four-storey apartment building. Sprinkler systems managed to extinguish that fire, too.
