Lauren S\u00e1nchez is close to becoming an empty nester. The former journalist<\/a> was candid about her feelings when her son Evan Whitesell left for college. <\/p>\n

In an Instagram story posted on August 12, 2025, Lauren posted a photo of her son Evan building furniture. She captioned the story, \u201cDropped off Evan at college today. 18 years of early mornings, late night snacks and family dinners\u2026. and then there he was building his own dorm cabinet.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cA small thing but in that moment I saw the start of his next chapter. Proud. Heartbroken. Grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Evan is Lauren\u2019s second child and first son with her ex-husband Patrick Whitesell. She also shares\u00a0one child, Nikko, with ex-boyfriend Tony Gonzalez, and has a daughter, Ella, with Whitesell. She is also a stepmother to Bezos\u2019 four kids with MacKenzie Scott.<\/p>\n

Evan also picked up her affinity and hobby of flying helicopters. \u201cThere\u2019s a special kind of trust that comes when you watch your kid take off on their own for the first time,\u201d S\u00e1nchez Bezos\u00a0wrote\u00a0<\/a>in a now-deleted Instagram video of her son flying.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s about letting go, but also knowing they\u2019re more than ready. It\u2019s terrifying, exhilarating, and so deeply rewarding all at once.\u201d<\/p>\n

While things are moving forward with her family, Lauren S\u00e1nchez and Jeff Bezos<\/a> are currently demanding money from her brother, Michael, after a long legal battle. The feud between Jeff, Lauren, and Michael culminated when news broke of the Amazon founder and the former journalist\u2019s relationship in 2018. Lauren was still married, but separated from her husband at the time.<\/a><\/p>\n

The National Enquirer threatened to publish X-rated photos from their private texts, leading the SpaceX founder to write a blog post with descriptions of the photos.\u00a0The\u00a0New York Times\u00a0reported that Lauren\u2019s brother had signed a nondisclosure agreement about the couple\u2019s alleged affair.<\/p>\n

Page Six<\/a>\u00a0reported that Jeff and Lauren\u2019s legal team filed a motion in California Superior Court demanding that Michael pay $182,374 in attorney\u2019s fees and $8,182 in legal costs, \u201cincurred in connection with (1) her successful Special Motion to Strike, and (2) this Motion for Attorney\u2019s Fees and Costs.\u201d The couple claimed their lawyers\u2019 hourly rates range from $549 to $1,125.<\/p>\n

Michael denied leaking texts and photos \u201cbelow the belt\u201d to the publication. In February 2020,\u00a0Michael sued Jeff<\/a>\u00a0for defamation, calling the couple \u201cliars and cheaters.\u201d But Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled in the Amazon founder\u2019s favor.<\/p>\n

Her brother was not invited to Jeff and Lauren\u2019s lavish $50 million wedding in Venice, Italy. In a June 2025 interview with\u00a0The Times<\/a>, Michael said that he hadn\u2019t seen his sister in person since 2019 and hadn\u2019t heard a word from her since 2020.\u00a0Meanwhile, her two sons, Evan and Nikko, had huge roles in their $50M wedding by walking her down the aisle, and her daughter Ella, served as maid of honor. <\/p>\n
