Victoria Day used to be one of a few dates when Brampton residents were allowed to set off fireworks without a permit, but now setting off pyrotechnics could lead to fines up to $100,000.<\/p>\n
Nearly all types of personal fireworks were banned in Brampton following particularly explosive Diwali celebrations in 2022, which saw more than 1,000 complaints filed to city hall.<\/p>\n
Unlike on Canada Day, New Year\u2019s Eve and Diwali, there will be no city-sponsored fireworks display on the Victoria Day holiday Monday. And while the number of fireworks complaints has dropped since the ban came into place, residents are being reminded to celebrate safely on Victoria Day or risk steep fines.<\/p>\n
Brampton\u2019s fireworks ban applies to all personal pyrotechnics except for sparklers, and includes fines of:<\/p>\n
Discharge or in possession of fireworks without a permit: $500
\nSell, distribute, display or offer for sale fireworks: $1,000
\nPermit, allow or cause to be set off fireworks on private property without a permit: $500
\nFail to comply with an order: $1,000<\/p>\n
The city may also issue a summons requiring an individual to attend court, where fines range from $500 to a maximum of $100,000.<\/p>\n
Before the ban, personal fireworks were permitted on Victoria Day, Canada Day, Diwali and New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n
There were just seven fireworks complaints made to Service Brampton during New Year\u2019s Eve celebrations from Dec. 31 through to Jan. 2 \u2013 down some 60 per cent from the 24 complaints on New Year\u2019s Eve 2025.<\/p>\n
Fireworks complaints on New Year\u2019s Eve were also down last year, but calls on Diwali spiked in 2025 (1,490) following a sharp drop in 2024 (161).<\/p>\n
There were over $45,000 in fines and some 1,500 complaints related to fireworks or excessive noise<\/a> during the days-long 2025 Diwali celebrations in Brampton.<\/p>\n
